April 2012

TUESDAY, APRIL 17, 2012, 6:30 P.M.
SPEAKER: RAY LAURIA, MONTE BROS. SOUND SYSTEMS, INC.

The Hearing Loss Association of Jacksonville is encouraging the installation of hearing loops in churches, theaters, libraries, meeting rooms, and any place where people gather. This user friendly technology makes these venues more hearing accessible for those with hearing aids or cochlear implants.

Join us at our regular meeting to hear Ray Lauria, who will be joined by Bob Pelepako, of Monte Brothers. Our meeting room will have a temporary loop system installed and you will be able to experience firsthand how this technology can make a difference in your life.

Unlike FM or Infra-Red audio systems, hearing (induction) loops transmit a silent electromagnetic signal that can be accessed without the need for a headset. People who are hard of hearing simply push a button on their hearing aid or cochlear implant to receive the signal which is turned back into sound, corrected by those devices to match the pattern of their hearing loss, and sent on to the brain. Hearing loops can be a primary assistive listening system or supplement existing FM or Infra-Red sound systems.

Although many audio/visual professionals are not familiar with the technology, hearing loops are the assistive listening system of choice for most hard of hearing people. The technology is being promoted by both the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) and the American Academy of Audiology through their “Get In the Hearing Loop “campaign.

Let’s “Loop Jacksonville”.
